Financial Controller (Real Estate)

About the role

The owner‑operator of a diversified portfolio of commercial, residential and hotel properties in New York City is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead accounting, reporting and compliance functions across the real‑estate assets.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain internal controls and safeguard assets.
• Oversee financial reporting and operational performance for residential, commercial and hospitality properties.
• Review third‑party project financial statements and coordinate with property managers for accurate reporting.
• Process accounts payable, deposits and intercompany/external cash transfers for ancillary entities.
• Perform bank reconciliations, prepare daily/weekly cash reports, and manage banking relationships.
• Handle monthly debt service journal entries, capital calls, mortgage abstracts and schedules.
• Maintain personal and business real‑estate tax schedules; execute 1099 processes and hotel sales‑tax filings.
• Prepare quarterly compliance packages for banks and liaise with third‑party CPA firms.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, investment waterfall analysis and job‑cost accounting for construction and capital projects.
• Ensure compliance with city, state and federal regulations related to taxes, payroll and benefits.

Required profile

• B.S. in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of general accounting experience, preferably in real‑estate.
• CPA designation preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
• Proficiency with Yardi accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills for complex spreadsheet analysis.
