Financial Controller

About the role

The Controller will lead all accounting and financial reporting functions for a fast‑paced merchant development and construction platform. You will ensure accurate, compliant, and timely reporting across multiple active projects while supporting financing activities and project dispositions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for corporate and project entities.
• Maintain job‑cost accounting, revenue recognition and cost capitalization in accordance with GAAP.
• Track project budgets, costs and profitability; manage construction draws, lender requisitions and equity funding requests.
• Support financing activities, coordinate with lenders and investors, and assist with project close‑out reporting.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity across entities and projects.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations and lender reporting; develop internal controls and work with external auditors.
• Build, mentor and lead accounting staff; improve systems, processes and reporting efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
• 7–12+ years of accounting experience with a focus on real‑estate development and construction.
• Deep understanding of development and construction accounting, job costing and project lifecycles.
• Experience with construction loans, draw processes and capital stack structures.
• Familiarity with commercial real‑estate, preferably retail or single‑tenant projects.
