About the role

The Field Operations Finance Division (FOFD) within the Office of Programme Planning, Finance and Budget seeks a motivated Finance Intern. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience in financial management, budgeting, and analysis in a dynamic international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Research and compile historical data on mandates, expenditure patterns, and socio‑economic contexts for budget submissions.
• Verify that resource requirements comply with UN rules, Security Council and General Assembly mandates.
• Assist in budget preparation, consolidating programmatic and financial information for presentation.
• Monitor UN budget implementation and identify variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
• Generate financial reports using databases and spreadsheets.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, finance or a related field.
• No prior professional experience required; a strong academic background in finance or related disciplines is essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel.
