Elevator Modernization Mechanic (Class A)

About the role

Unitec, part of the American Elevator Group, is looking for an experienced Class A Elevator Modernization Mechanic to join its New York City team. The role focuses on safe, efficient installation, repair, and modernization of elevators and other lifting equipment in commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Perform precise mechanical repairs, adjustments, and part replacements on elevators and related equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and testing of control circuits, motors, and auxiliary electrical components.
• Execute machine babbitting, thrust renewals, motor and controller removal and replacement.
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of all work performed and provide clear documentation.
• Deliver professional customer service to building owners, occupants, and contractors.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.
• Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in elevator repair.
• Minimum five years of experience in elevator repair, installation, and modernization.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, safety regulations, and building codes.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical drawings.
