Director of Events & Alumni Engagement

About the role

The Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University seeks a strategic leader to direct events and alumni engagement. Reporting to the Executive Director of External Relations and Marketing, you will shape the school’s community‑building initiatives and strengthen connections with students, alumni, donors, and the broader public.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and execute a portfolio of high‑profile SFS events aligned with the Dean’s strategic goals.
• Develop an annual community‑engagement strategy, including complex academic and public‑relations events.
• Lead alumni‑relations initiatives to deepen alumni involvement and support.
• Collaborate with academic units to provide guidance on program events and logistical support.
• Supervise two full‑time Events and Communications Managers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in major event planning, management, and outreach to large, diverse audiences.
• Strong knowledge of protocol and etiquette.
• Exceptional organizational skills and a commitment to outstanding customer service.
• Experience in university events management and alumni relations is highly desirable.
• Experience working with senior officials from public and private sectors.
• Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
