About the role
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is seeking a Director of Audit to lead its compliance audit function for National Governing Bodies within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. This senior role ensures adherence to federal statutes and Center policies, promoting athlete safety and organizational accountability.
Key responsibilities
- Direct day‑to‑day operations of the NGB compliance audit program, overseeing audit team delivery and continuous improvement.
- Set and advance the long‑term strategic vision for NGB audit functions, establishing internal and external protocols aligned with the department’s strategic plan.
- Lead audit team activities, including auditor assignment, scoping discussions, and review and approval of work papers and draft audit reports.
- Conduct third‑level reviews to ensure consistency in findings and verify that prior audit findings, risk areas, and scope are adequately addressed.
- Review and approve NGB corrective action plans and validate remediation completion before issuing final audit reports.
- Escalate NGB failures to address audit findings to senior leadership as appropriate.
- Manage the audit team budget and grant deliverables to ensure annual completion of audits across all NGBs.
- Collaborate with Directors of Compliance Development, NGB Support Services, Engagement, and Data & Research to align policies, communications, and data aggregation.
Required profile
- Proven experience leading audit teams in a compliance‑focused environment.
- Deep knowledge of the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017 and the Empowering Olympic, Paralympic, and Amateur Athletes Act of 2020.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, grant deliverables, and cross‑departmental collaboration.
