Design Manager - Nuclear Facilities

About the role

Parsons is seeking a Design Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team in the design of next‑generation nuclear fuel production and waste processing facilities. The role combines technical leadership, staffing oversight, and coordination with project managers to deliver high‑quality, regulatory‑compliant designs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineers, architects, designers, BIM specialists and technical support staff in the design of new nuclear facilities.
• Develop staffing budgets, assignment schedules and forecast reports, maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
• Manage all engineering and design efforts across disciplines, ensuring quality, schedule and budget compliance.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to resolve staffing, quality, schedule or productivity issues.
• Establish and improve design standards and procedures for assigned projects.
• Support pre‑contract business development as a technical consultant.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET‑accredited), preferably Nuclear or Chemical Engineering.
• 15+ years experience producing PE‑sealed Issued for Construction design documents.
• 8+ years progressive supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary design teams of 50+ members.
• Experience on projects with total installed costs over $100 M.
• Thorough knowledge of DOE and NRC nuclear regulations and successful acquisition of an NRC Facility Operating License or DOE Safety Basis Approval.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Civil3D and Plant3D.
• In‑depth understanding of DOE and NRC nuclear regulatory frameworks.
• Familiarity with design service contracts under the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
