Data Engineer I – AWS & Databricks

About the role

The Travelers Data Engineering team is seeking a Data Engineer I to design, build, and operationalize data pipelines that enable enterprise‑wide analytics, AI, and machine learning. You will work with modern cloud technologies to transform raw data into trusted, high‑quality data products.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operationalize complex data solutions, applying transformations and recommending data‑cleansing and quality improvements.
• Design end‑to‑end data pipelines and assess source systems for analytical value.
• Implement data governance, security, and quality controls across data assets.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, educate end users, and support delivery of data products.
• Perform data and system analysis, resolve moderate‑complexity defects, and test data movement and transformation code.
• Execute additional duties as assigned to support the analytics landscape.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
• At least six years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Strong fundamentals in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines.
• Authorization to work for any employer in the United States (no sponsorship).

Required skills

• AWS services: Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Athena.
• Databricks platform: Notebooks, Jobs, Unity Catalog, Genie, Autoloader, streaming, near‑real‑time processing.
• Data governance, data security, and data quality practices.
• Experience with data transformation, pipeline orchestration, and analytical data modeling.
