About the role

The Griffin Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking a Criminal Investigator 2 to plan and conduct investigations in defense of clients charged with criminal offenses. The position works on a day shift in Griffin, Georgia, and offers a robust benefits package for all career stages. The role involves client interviews, evidence analysis, scene investigation, witness location, records collection, and background checks, all performed in close collaboration with attorneys to develop strong defense strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct investigations for clients charged with criminal offenses.
• Interview clients, witnesses, complainants, and law‑enforcement officials.
• Analyze evidence, collect records, and perform background checks.
• Locate and interview witnesses to support the defense.
• Prepare detailed reports of interviews and case developments.
• Work cooperatively with attorneys to develop strong client relationships and defense theories.
• Conduct scene investigations and evidence analysis.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.
• One year of related experience (or three years of law‑enforcement experience, or one year as Criminal Investigator 1).
• Ability to hold a valid Class C driver’s license if required.
