Corporate Counsel, Servicing and Litigation

About the role

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Corporate Counsel will act as a cross‑functional legal partner focused on servicing, collections and litigation for a fast‑growing fintech. The role requires a detail‑oriented attorney who can thrive in a dynamic environment and drive risk‑mitigation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Advise cross‑functionally on state and federal compliance for servicing and collections, drafting policies and tracking regulatory changes.
• Monitor escalations, identify patterns, investigate systemic gaps and work with product teams to improve user flows.
• Optimize triage, investigation and resolution of escalations; manage contentious matters with outside counsel as needed.
• Review and negotiate third‑party agreements with vendors, debt buyers and other service providers, ensuring proper SLA and chain‑of‑title documentation.
• Draft consumer‑facing notices, advise on hardship, deferral, re‑age and charge‑off program compliance.
• Test and implement AI‑driven automation, building agents and playbooks to streamline workflows.
• Lead additional projects based on evolving business needs.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership (NY or CA preferred).
• 8+ years of legal experience, including time at a top‑tier law firm and in‑house at a high‑growth technology or fintech company.
• Proven experience advising on servicing, collections and litigation in consumer finance.
• Strong business judgment with the ability to identify and mitigate material legal risks.
• Experience with AI and building automated workflows.
• Highly organized, detail‑focused and capable of managing a high‑volume, multi‑workstream portfolio.
• Can‑do attitude, willing to take on any task that supports the business.
