Corporate Controller

About the role

Capital Waste Services is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead all corporate accounting functions and financial reporting across its multi-state waste-management operations. Reporting to the CFO, the controller will ensure the integrity of financial statements, drive disciplined close processes, and build a scalable accounting organization to support continued growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead corporate accounting activities including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and revenue recognition.
• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close, guaranteeing accuracy, timeliness and GAAP compliance.
• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Coordinate external audits and serve as primary liaison for auditors.
• Design, implement and monitor internal control frameworks and ensure compliance with federal, state and local reporting requirements.
• Act as accounting owner for ERP and financial systems (e.g., NetSuite, BlackLine), optimizing chart of accounts, workflows and reporting structures.
• Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and overall financial strategy.
• Develop and mentor a growing accounting team, establishing policies, procedures and best practices.

Required profile

• Proven senior accounting leadership experience in a multi-entity, multi-state environment.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP and corporate financial reporting.
• Track record of building and scaling accounting teams and processes.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to influence executive decision-making.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across finance and operations.

Required skills

• NetSuite (or comparable ERP) implementation and administration.
• BlackLine or similar financial close automation tools.
• Advanced understanding of internal controls and audit coordination.
