Controller – Accounting Operations Lead

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a financial services organization in Midland, Texas. The role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, delivering timely reports, and strengthening internal controls to support compliance and sound fiscal management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily accounting activities across payables, receivables, fixed‑asset tracking, settlements and related processes.
• Manage the accounting team, set priorities, monitor workflow and ensure deadlines are met.
• Support staffing needs through recruiting, onboarding, coaching and performance feedback.
• Maintain the general ledger, post journal entries, perform reconciliations and oversee month‑end and year‑end close.
• Produce financial statements and reports for leadership, board, auditors and regulators.
• Establish and refine accounting procedures and internal controls for consistency and audit readiness.
• Respond to accounting inquiries from members, management and internal departments.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors, preparing documentation and addressing requests.
• Evaluate accounting workflows, identify weaknesses and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of accounting or controller‑level experience, preferably in financial services or a regulated environment.
• Proven ability to supervise accounting staff and balance team workloads.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger management, reconciliations, financial reporting and closing processes.
• Experience developing and enforcing internal controls and compliance‑focused procedures.
• Ability to prepare clear financial reports for leadership, auditors and regulators.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
