Construction Worker II – General Construction & Maintenance

About the role

The Construction Worker II supports the construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of municipal facilities, parks and other structures. The role involves a broad range of hands‑on tasks, from rough carpentry to basic electrical work, ensuring projects meet specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform rough and finish carpentry, masonry, block laying, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, minor welding, plastering, roofing, tiling, fence installation and sheetrock work on city buildings and parks.
• Construct interior and exterior framing, stairs, ramps, and concrete structures such as sidewalks, curbs, and ramps.
• Read and follow blueprints, sketches and diagrams to verify project specifications.
• Repair and remodel interiors, install flooring, paneling, doors, windows, and hardware.
• Operate hydraulic and power equipment safely and efficiently.
• Lead and train laborers or helpers on assigned tasks.
• Respond courteously to public inquiries and resolve complaints.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED plus 30 credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding.
• At least two years of general construction experience.
• Ability to work on-site with or without reasonable accommodation.
• When assigned to aviation projects, possession of required aviation‑related certifications.
