Construction Inspector

About the role

Horrocks is seeking a Construction Inspector to ensure that NMDOT highway projects comply with plans, specifications, and contract documents. You will work onsite, coordinating with contractors and project managers to resolve inspection issues while maintaining safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct construction inspections on NMDOT projects and monitor contract work for compliance.
• Establish and maintain documentation and reporting requirements based on construction plans and specifications.
• Interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to verify compliance.
• Coordinate with contractors and project management to identify and resolve inspection issues.
• Ensure inspection activities follow safety rules and regulations.
• Enter daily work reports using the Department’s software applications (e.g., Site Manager, AASHTOWare).
• Document payments in the same software and electronic source books.
• Perform field material testing with a nuclear density gauge and concrete testing when required.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of experience in construction inspection, preferably transportation‑related projects.
• Certified in NMDOT TTCP.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Clean driving record and willingness to travel overnight.
• Dependable, hardworking, and able to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with NMDOT TTCP certification requirements.
• Experience using nuclear density gauge for field material testing.
• Concrete testing knowledge.
• Basic computer skills with spreadsheets and word processing.
• Familiarity with Site Manager and AASHTOWare software applications.
