About the role
Bureau Veritas is seeking a driven Concrete Special Inspector to support building, transportation and infrastructure projects across New York City. This early‑career position offers hands‑on field experience in concrete inspections, code compliance, testing and quality assurance.
Key responsibilities
- Perform field inspections of cast‑in‑place concrete, foundations, slabs, walls and related structural elements to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications and NYC Building Code Chapter 17.
- Monitor concrete placement activities, including batching, delivery, consolidation, finishing, curing and protection procedures.
- Conduct and witness concrete field testing (slump, air content, temperature, unit weight) and prepare cylinder samples for compressive strength testing.
- Verify reinforcing steel placement, spacing, cover, embedments and formwork prior to pour.
- Document daily observations, inspection results and non‑conforming work, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project teams.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field (preferred) and Engineer‑in‑Training designation or FE pursuit.
- Required ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification; preferred ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector and NICET Concrete testing certifications.
- 1–3 years of experience in construction inspection, concrete testing or field engineering on active job sites.
