Chief, Regional Coordination and Intergovernmental Affairs

About the role

The Chief, Regional Coordination and Intergovernmental Affairs leads the Intergovernmental and Regional Liaison Section within the UN Development Coordination Office in New York. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Engagement, the incumbent provides strategic leadership to support the Resident Coordinator system and the UN’s development coordination mandate.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement differentiated engagement strategies with Member States, coordinating with DCO sections, Regional Directors, and Resident Coordinators.
• Oversee monitoring and analysis of UN intergovernmental deliberations, tracking emerging trends and preparing high‑quality briefings for senior management.
• Lead regional architecture support, including coordination of internal working groups, preparation of inputs for the Secretary‑General’s reports, and management of Regional Liaison Officers.
• Contribute to the preparation of DCO reports and presentations to the Deputy Secretary‑General and UN bodies such as the General Assembly and ECOSOC.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of intergovernmental affairs, UN procedures and the development coordination system.
• Strong analytical abilities, data collection and research skills, and the capacity to produce clear, actionable briefings.
• Excellent communication, client‑orientation and leadership qualities, with a proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
