Chief Plumbing Inspector

About the role

The Chief Plumbing Inspector performs technical inspection work to enforce municipality codes and ordinances governing building construction, alterations, and repairs. This role ensures plumbing code compliance through plan reviews and on‑site inspections, interacting with contractors, developers, architects, and engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct plumbing inspections for compliance with national, state, and local codes, including septic systems, drainage fields, grease interceptors, water piping, and waste lines.
• Review construction plans to verify adherence to plumbing code requirements and approved blueprints.
• Investigate and resolve complaints of defective installations, issue correction instructions, and perform re‑inspections.
• Participate in meetings with contractors, developers, architects, and engineers before and during construction activities.
• Document violations, prepare reports, and occasionally represent the city at court hearings.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and techniques, especially related to plumbing systems.
• Strong familiarity with the Florida Building Code and other applicable regulations.
• Ability to detect defects, interpret codes, and make decisions based on established precedents.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with contractors, owners, and the public.
• Experience reading and interpreting plans, drawings, and diagrams.
