Assistant Professor of Global Medieval History

About the role

Hofstra University, in the Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Global Medieval History, starting September 1, 2027. The position is full-time and requires research and teaching expertise in global interconnections in any period between the fourth and sixteenth centuries. Applications are welcomed from candidates with a strong background in transcontinental exchanges, including the histories of Eurasia, the Indian Ocean and Africa, and the circulation of trade, culture, religious beliefs, ideas, science, technology or disease.

Key responsibilities

• Teach core courses in history and global medieval history; expertise in an area outside of Europe is desirable.
• Conduct research and scholarship in medieval history, evidenced by a dissertation, monograph, Digital Humanities project or public history work.
• Support efforts to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.
• Provide service to the Department of History and the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in History at the time of appointment.
• Experience teaching undergraduate history courses.
• Demonstrated record of academic scholarship, research and other scholarly activity commensurate with rank.
• Commitment to promoting an inclusive educational environment.
• Commitment to undergraduate-level teaching and potential for department and university service.

What we offer

• Starting salary range of $92,000-$95,000.
