Assistant Dean of Students & Director, Sandler Center for Alcohol & Drug Education

About the role

The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Sandler Center serves as the University of Miami’s primary resource for alcohol and other drug education programs. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the role also supports student discipline, parental communication, crisis management, and service assessment.

Key responsibilities

• Administer all university alcohol and drug education programs, including online sanctioning modules and peer‑led workshops.
• Hire, train, and supervise graduate assistants and undergraduate peer educators for the Sandler Center.
• Develop and deliver dynamic substance‑misuse education activities in partnership with campus units such as Housing, Student Activities, and the Butler Center.
• Maintain the Sandler Center website, publications, and a comprehensive resource library on substance misuse.
• Prepare reports for the President’s Commission on Mental Health and Alcohol & Drug Education and cultivate donor relationships.
• Supervise graduate interns, manage the Center’s budget and endowment accounts, and serve as a hearing officer for disciplinary cases.
• Participate in division‑wide events (Orientation, Leadership Programs, Homecoming) and be on the 24‑hour crisis response roster.
• Explore AI tools to enhance the Center’s workflow, community engagement, and online presence.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, enrollment management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years full‑time professional experience in student affairs or a related area.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with alcohol and other drug education programs.
• Strong administrative, problem‑solving, and communication skills; highly organized and detail‑oriented.
