Animal Care Technician – Laboratory Animal Care

About the role

The Animal Care Technician provides humane, safe, and sanitary care for laboratory animals at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation’s Skirball Center for Innovation. Working full‑time on‑site, the technician supports research studies by maintaining animal health, environment, and records in compliance with federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily feeding, watering, and husbandry for laboratory animals.
• Change cages, clean animal rooms, and sanitize service areas, equipment, and hallways.
• Monitor animals for clinical signs of disease or behavioral changes and report observations to the Manager, Animal Care.
• Administer special diets, water, and oral medications according to study protocols.
• Prepare animals for procedures, record body weights, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Operate and maintain cagewashers, bottle washers, tunnel washers, autoclaves, and other support equipment.
• Receive, transport, and distribute incoming animals following receiving procedures.
• Participate in GLP study activities, including animal receipt, placement, and documentation of any issues affecting study integrity.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• ALAT certification or eligibility to obtain certification within one year.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site at the Orangeburg, NY facility.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow federal animal care regulations.
