About the role
The Healthy Futures AmeriCorps member will join the International Rescue Committee’s Family Support team in Virginia, helping newly arrived refugees and immigrants overcome health‑related barriers. This service‑oriented position focuses on coordinating physical and mental health care, ensuring families can access the resources they need to thrive.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with the IRC Medical Case Manager to coordinate care and advocate for families with special medical needs.
- Educate newcomers on how to locate and use community health services.
- Assist with scheduling medical appointments and follow‑up visits.
- Guide clients through healthcare and social service systems, providing clear instructions and support.
Required profile
- Fluent written and spoken English; bilingual ability in a predominant local language is a plus.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident authorized to work in the United States.
- At least 18 years old and able to commit to one full term of service.
- High school diploma, GED, or working toward completion during the term.
- Successful completion of a National Service criminal‑history check.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
