AI/Machine Learning Engineer – Early Career

About the role

Join 3M's global AI incubator as an early‑career AI/Machine Learning Engineer. You will work with experienced researchers and engineers to turn cutting‑edge Python prototypes into production‑ready Rust components that power real‑world AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Translate well‑specified Python research modules into readable, tested, maintainable Rust code.
• Design, implement and maintain unit, integration, regression, simulation and reproducibility tests.
• Profile CPU, memory, latency and throughput; collaborate with senior developers to improve performance and scalability.
• Support concurrent and parallel execution, Python/Rust interoperability, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, observability and deployment automation.
• Build components for real‑time inference, near‑real‑time reasoning, offline simulations, cloud services, on‑premises and edge environments.
• Document designs, interfaces, benchmarks and operating assumptions for safe maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive Science or a related field.
• Early‑career professional eager to learn structured relational, causal and neural‑symbolic computation.
• Strong collaborative mindset and commitment to responsible handling of confidential intellectual property.

Required skills

• Python programming.
