About the role
The Water/Wastewater Operator in Charge (OIC) leads the operation of our treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with permits, safety standards, and financial targets. You will make final process control decisions, supervise on‑site staff, and act as the primary technical authority.
Key responsibilities
- Operate water and wastewater treatment systems in full compliance with all regulations and permits.
- Monitor SCADA/HMI trends, laboratory results, and field data; execute startups, shutdowns, bypasses, and major adjustments.
- Direct and coordinate operators and support personnel, assigning tasks, overseeing housekeeping, and performing basic maintenance.
- Review logs, bench sheets, and reports to detect early operational or compliance issues and initiate corrective actions.
- Manage routine and compliance sampling, ensuring QA/QC standards are met.
- Prepare and submit regulatory records, daily logs, DMRs, MORs, and incident reports on schedule.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, planning outages to protect effluent quality.
- Lead emergency response for process upsets, power failures, equipment failures, and storm events.
- Enforce safety policies, including confined‑space entry, lockout/tagout, chemical handling, PPE, and fall protection.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate Operators I‑III and trainees.
- Assist in developing SOPs, emergency plans, and process‑optimization initiatives.
Required profile
- Proven experience operating water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, permits, and safety standards.
- Ability to interpret KPI and P&L data and drive budgetary performance.
- Leadership experience supervising a small team of operators.
- Effective communication skills for reporting to supervisors and regulators.
