Water Plant Technician

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Water Plant Technician to operate and maintain the water treatment plant at a remote Antarctic research station, under the supervision of the Lead Water Plant Operator. The technician works a rotating day, swing or night shift and reports to the operator in responsible charge.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all environmental, safety, health, waste management and quality assurance requirements, providing the necessary documentation.
• Operate the water plant to provide an uninterrupted water supply, starting, operating and securing reverse osmosis units and ancillary equipment.
• Monitor reverse osmosis units, water plant chemistry and equipment parameters, making adjustments as needed.
• Respond to unscheduled equipment or process failures and coordinate ordering of repair and spare parts.
• Complete maintenance records, laboratory and operating logbooks, and keep inventory accurate to 98% or better.
• Work with the operator on goal-setting, strategic planning and division metrics, and communicate hazards to staff through crew meetings.
• Interact with partner companies, the National Science Foundation and other agency officials, and may work outside on jobsites in extreme cold.
• Deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, taking part in dormitory chores and community programs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; Colorado Class D certification (or equivalent) or six months of water treatment operator experience in lieu of it.
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica, with medical, dental and federal background checks completed.
• US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location.
• Valid US driver's license; able to lift and move equipment and work outdoors in extreme cold.
• Preferred: previous polar logistics experience, Class C certification, one year of water production experience and reverse osmosis experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of reverse osmosis water treatment plant operation, maintenance and safety.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
