VP of People

About the role

Backstory is seeking a VP of People to partner directly with the CEO and executive team. You will shape organizational design, executive effectiveness, and global scaling as the company evolves into an AI‑native business.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the CEO on organizational strategy, leadership gaps, and company structure.
• Guide the transformation of Backstory into an AI‑native organization, influencing roles, workflows, and talent strategy.
• Lead and embed the HR Business Partner function as a strategic partner across product, engineering, GTM, and operations.
• Facilitate executive team formation, integration, and development for a mixed group of seasoned leaders and new hires.
• Drive org‑design initiatives that support growth, accountability, and operational effectiveness.
• Audit and evolve total‑rewards philosophy, ensuring compensation, equity, benefits, and recognition are competitive and aligned with goals.
• Build scalable leadership development and manager effectiveness programs.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leader with experience shaping organizational design and executive team effectiveness.
• Strategic thinker who can align People initiatives with business outcomes.
• Track record of scaling high‑growth technology companies, preferably in AI or SaaS.
• Strong partnership skills with CEOs and C‑suite executives.
