Spacesuit Project Engineer

About the role

Amentum, NASA's largest engineering solutions provider, is looking for a Spacesuit Project Engineer to join its teammate company Barios. The engineer performs project and test engineering for EVA spacesuits, covering design, development, procurement, manufacture, test and certification, and works with NASA test facilities across the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Perform project and test engineering for EVA spacesuit design, development, procurement, manufacture, test and certification.
• Develop test documentation such as test plans, hazard analyses, test procedures and Test Readiness Review documents.
• Design tests and test rigs, including instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Coordinate test activities with NASA test facilities and run tests, preparing summary reports of results.
• Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical failures in spacesuit hardware, development test articles or test support hardware.
• Analyze problems and data using engineering techniques and follow pre-established guidelines; perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the field or a related area.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection and component and system level testing.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may be required, and a U.S. government background investigation is needed.

Preferred qualifications

• Project engineer or test engineer experience.
• Familiarity with NASA test processes.
• Electro-mechanical hardware knowledge (pumps, relief valves, control valves, sensors, data acquisition systems).
• Plus: oxygen or life support systems experience and LabVIEW programming.
