Software Engineer II – Backend (Post-Transaction)

About the role

Affirm is looking for a Backend Software Engineer II to own the post‑transaction systems that keep customer accounts accurate and resolve issues after a card transaction settles. You will work on high‑scale services that directly affect customer outcomes for one of the company’s fastest‑growing products.

Key responsibilities

• Break down large projects into manageable tasks and deliver them in multiple phases.
• Collaborate with product, design, analytics, compliance and cross‑functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Maintain and monitor system health, create metrics, and participate in on‑call rotations.
• Support the team’s operational availability and “keep the lights on” efforts.
• Contribute to team culture by participating in interview processes and growth activities.

Required profile

• At least 1.5 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed system concepts and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well‑tested, extensible code and navigate large codebases.
• Strong debugging skills and experience providing constructive code reviews.
• Self‑driven growth mindset, actively seeking feedback from peers and stakeholders.
