Shop Foreman - VMF

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Shop Foreman for its VMF (Vehicle Maintenance Facility) team. The role directs the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles, performs complex repairs in the shop and in the field, and acts as a technical expert in equipment and vehicle maintenance. The position involves deployment to Antarctica.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles and coordinate work orders, assigning personnel to tasks
• Complete corrective maintenance as outlined by the VMF Supervisor and adjust tasking to urgent needs
• Monitor in-progress work for quality, timeliness and material control, and document work order progress
• Maintain records of shop activity and technical documentation, and submit project progress reports
• Write end-of-season performance evaluations for heavy and light equipment technicians and the technician assistant
• Generate purchase requisitions, assess equipment and recommend improvements
• Train and develop the crew, promote a strong safety culture and hold the crew accountable for safety
• Comply with environmental health, safety and quality requirements and handle confidential matters per management policy

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 8 years of experience in heavy and light vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair
• Proven leadership capabilities and at least one season of VMF experience in Antarctica
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship (for facility credentials)
• Ability to lift and move heavy items, climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold

Required skills

• Knowledge of mechanical practices for commercial and special-purpose equipment, including electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Lifting and bracing large parts with jacks, cranes, floor lifts and cribbing
• Preferred: two years of technical school training, experience with generators, mobile cranes, compaction, ski resort grooming, waste management and firefighting equipment
• Preferred: Fuel Master or similar fuel management software, Maximo, and Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
