Servo-Hydraulic Friction Stir Weld Tool Operations & Maintenance Technician (ET6)

About the role

Amentum's ESSCA Group, part of the Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED), is looking for an ET6 Servo-Hydraulic Friction Stir Weld Tool Operations & Maintenance Technician. The role maintains, repairs and controls the configuration of hydraulically powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines, working in an office environment with occasional domestic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and control the configuration of hydraulically powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines, using customer-supplied equipment-specific training to understand how the equipment works.
• Determine the root cause of failures, carry out repairs and propose interim solutions when permanent repairs cannot be done immediately.
• Document problems, investigation methods, corrective actions and repair results, and share them with colleagues, the company and the customer.
• Develop spare parts lists, arrange for parts to be obtained and obtain replacements when stock runs out.
• Train other personnel to run the machines and plan and execute projects carried out on them.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent, with at least 15 years of experience and continuing education; or an Associate's degree or equivalent with at least 10 years of experience.
• US citizen with a STAR ID.
• Experience with control systems, hydraulics and electromechanical systems.
• Prior experience operating and maintaining MTS Systems Corporation/PaR/I-STIR friction stir welding equipment or MTS multi-axis servohydraulic control systems, and preferably experience with the friction stir welding process and/or manufacturing development.
