Senior Specialty Mechanical Engineer (Hybrid/Remote)

About the role

Amentum Nuclear Projects, a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, is seeking a Senior Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer to support its Oak Ridge Group. The engineer must be knowledgeable in specialty machinery design, and the work is based in Oak Ridge, TN, primarily in a secure engineering office, with occasional travel and site visits. Hybrid or remote work may be available by prior agreement depending on role and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design specialty mechanical equipment and create and review complex mechanical calculations
• Mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Manage the scope, schedule and budget of individual projects
• Communicate complex ideas to management and clients
• Follow Amentum's quality procedures and work within an ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality system

Required profile

• 15 or more years of experience; a Master's degree is a plus
• B.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• Knowledge of machine design, machine elements (bearings, seals) and machine controls (hydraulic, electrical)
• U.S. citizenship required, with no dual citizenship
• Valid driver's license, ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, and willingness to undergo pre-employment background investigation and drug screening
• Ability to work overtime or outside normal hours as needed
• Preferred: commutable distance from the Oak Ridge office and DOE Q clearance
