Senior Platform Engineer – Storage

About the role

Railway is building rock‑solid storage primitives to let developers run stateful workloads with minimal friction. As a Senior Platform Engineer you will design, develop and operate Railway's high‑availability block‑storage system across cloud and bare‑metal environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of Railway's block storage systems and define long‑term architecture.
• Support operation of storage systems, including on‑call rotations and capacity planning.
• Specify storage server hardware and build interfaces with orchestration services for backups and zero‑downtime migrations.
• Write engineering requirement documents and drive solutions from idea to production.

Required profile

• Experience building and operating distributed storage systems from first principles.
• Strong systems engineering background in filesystems, block devices, kernel I/O paths or related virtualization technologies.
• Deep understanding of algorithms for fast, reliable storage and performance engineering on Linux.
• Proficiency in systems programming with Rust and ability to own problems end‑to‑end in a startup.
