Senior Infra Engineer – Observability

About the role

Railway is building an all‑encompassing platform for modern software infrastructure. As a Senior Infra Engineer focused on Observability, you will design and operate large‑scale telemetry pipelines and real‑time alerting systems that power the experience for hundreds of thousands of users.

Key responsibilities

• Build ingestion pipelines handling over 1 million requests per second of logs, metrics, and other telemetry.
• Develop fault‑tolerant, real‑time alerting engines and rich backend observability APIs.
• Create Golang/Rust gRPC services from scratch to support tens of thousands of users and scale to millions.
• Define immutable infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible, enabling rapid teardown and reconstruction.
• Write engineering requirement documents and collaborate with TypeScript/GraphQL teams to expose microservice APIs.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and experience building resilient, scalable services.
• Comfort with ambiguity in an early‑stage startup and ability to prioritize high‑impact work.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset for cross‑team interaction.
