Senior EMP or RF Engineer

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Senior Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) or RF Engineer to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) EMP Team. The engineer ensures the survivability of shipboard systems against EMP threats through a systematic, comprehensive approach. The role offers a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 paid within the first 30 days of employment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the NSWCDD EMP Team in protecting shipboard systems from EMP threats.
• Conduct vulnerability, EMP hardening and grounding/bonding surveys, analysis and evaluation of U.S. Naval and other platforms.
• Perform up-front Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) engineering during system development, using computational tools to assess the likelihood and consequence of EMI.
• Develop and validate EM survivability requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.
• Collect test data, run detailed analysis, perform desktop and on-site assessments of shipboard status, and write technical reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering, scientific or technical discipline, or four years of demonstrated subject-matter expertise.
• Five years of experience in EMP, Electronic Environmental Effects (E3), EMI, EMC and/or E3 computation and modeling.
• Eight years of demonstrated knowledge in fields such as mechanical, electrical, computer science, physics, mathematics or naval architecture.
• Demonstrated experience with pulsed power, high-voltage pulsers and pulse-forming networks.
• Active Secret U.S. Government clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Preferred: transmission line theory, EMC/EMV/EMP test facility experience (mode-stirred chambers, polarized wave simulators), and C5I experience.
