Seasonal Bat Field Technician – Biological Sciences Research

About the role

This full‑time, seasonal position (June‑August) supports the Northwest Bat Hub at Oregon State University‑Cascades. Based primarily in Idaho, the role leads field crews and ensures high‑quality acoustic monitoring of bat populations across the Pacific Northwest.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and select optimal locations for bat detectors within study areas.
• Plan and schedule survey periods to meet sample‑size goals efficiently.
• Determine safe access routes and navigation strategies for field sites.
• Implement quality‑assurance procedures during surveys, including troubleshooting detector equipment.
• Provide guidance and direction to student technicians and other crew members.

Required profile

• Experience conducting wildlife or bat acoustic surveys in field settings.
• Ability to lead small field crews and make independent operational decisions.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for on‑site equipment issues.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
