Real Estate Accountant

About the role

The Real Estate Accountant will own the month‑end close and financial reporting for a portfolio of residential land‑development and build‑to‑rent projects. Working closely with Acquisitions, Asset Management, Operations, Legal and property managers, you will ensure accurate corporate and portfolio accounting while supporting audits and ad‑hoc reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the month‑end close process for assigned portfolios, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements and cash‑flow reports.
• Maintain the general ledger, cash, accrued expenses, debt financing, AR and AP accounts.
• Process annual 1099 filings and support monthly, quarterly and annual financial schedules.
• Perform bank reconciliations and compile weekly cash reports.
• Coordinate with the Accounts Payable Manager on vendor invoicing, W‑9 administration and coding.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax accounting rules and joint‑venture operating agreements.
• Identify and drive process improvements, mentor team members and contribute to overall company goals.
