Probate Paralegal - Trusts & Estates

About the role

A boutique law firm specializing in estate planning, asset protection and estate administration is hiring a Probate Paralegal to work out of its Coral Gables office. This is not an entry-level position: candidates must have prior Trusts & Estates experience as a paralegal. The role is client-facing, with heavy verbal and written client contact, and involves drafting legal documents and keeping matters moving smoothly through the system.

Key responsibilities

• Draft probate or administration papers, collect and value assets, maintain estate asset lists with date-of-death values, pay debts and handle bequests
• Correspond with clients heavily, verbally and in writing
• Monitor deadlines and key dates for each matter
• Maintain estate administration files and correspondence, memos and administrative documents using practice management software
• Help prepare documentation needed to transfer assets
• Work with lawyers on trial preparation: research, exhibits, witnesses, motions, client meetings
• Gather information on legal issues from clients in interviews
• Assist lawyers with pleadings and correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, briefs and affidavits

Required profile

• 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
• Ability to master the day-to-day tasks, including drafting and researching
• Judgment to move cases through the system and technical skills that do not need rewriting by an attorney
• Strong interpersonal skills, writing and grammar, time management and organization
