Machinist III (JETSII Contract, NASA)

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Machinist III for its JETSII contract, working alongside NASA on deep space exploration projects. This is a CBA union position in a large, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a wide range of machining equipment. The Machinist III plans, lays out, machines and assembles parts and tools to precision tolerances.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, layout, machine and assemble parts and tools to exacting standards, including compound angles and mating parts.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, borers, grinders, gear cutters and drill presses, and set speeds, feeds and depths of cut.
• Determine the sequence of machining operations, cutting tools and work-holding methods.
• Grind tool bits and drills, and check setups and parts against blueprints.
• Offer technical direction to customers on pre-fabrication reviews, modifications and repairs.
• Program and operate at least one CNC language, and train less experienced machinists.
• Maintain a clean work area, organize inventory and safety equipment, and use lift equipment as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 12 years of machinist experience.
• Familiarity with at least one CNC programming language.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Physical ability to stand, climb ladders, lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, and wear steel-toed shoes.

Required skills

• CNC programming and operation of mills and lathes (CAD/CAM proficiency is a plus).
• Experience with HAAS, Hurco, Servo and Mazak machining centers, and multi-axis machines.
• Overhead crane experience and handling of NASA flight hardware.
