Light Vehicle Technician (Levels I, II & III) - Small Engine Field Support

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Light Vehicle Technician to inspect and service the power equipment used by field parties in Antarctica. The role covers maintenance, repair and training of generators, snowmobiles and ATVs, and includes work as an equipment operator in field camps.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, diagnose and repair generators, snowmobiles and ATVs, and rebuild engines, drive trains or components
• Train personnel on the safe use of the equipment
• Perform on-site maintenance and repair in the field, and act as equipment operator in camps (e.g. grooming the skiway, loading and unloading aircraft)
• Contribute to the end-of-season report and assist the shop foreman/camp manager and the heavy equipment technician
• Keep detailed records, complete work orders and maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area
• Operate and maintain compressors, presses, air tools, electric power tools, forklifts and grooming equipment
• Support ASC metrics, comply with environmental health, safety and quality assurance requirements, and participate in community programs

Required profile

• Level I: high school diploma or GED, at least two years' experience maintaining diesel and gasoline small engines and generators
• Level II: at least four years' experience, or three years plus one season in Antarctica
• Level III: at least seven years' experience
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening and background checks completed
• US citizenship required for facility credentials; valid US driver's license
• Able to lift and work outdoors in extreme cold

Required skills

• Maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators
• Ability to read wiring schematics and teach end users how to use and field maintain equipment
• Preferred: experience in snowmobile or ATV maintenance, engine rebuilding, cold weather work, and Wilderness First Responder certification
