Lead Accountant – Cash Management Unit

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking a Lead Accountant to head the Cash Management Unit within its Financial Management Section. This senior accounting role is responsible for overseeing revenue deposit functions and ensuring smooth financial services for assigned agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities for the Medical Assistance Trust Fund, including billing, reconciliations, audits, analysis, and payment posting.
• Perform complex cash management, revenue control, accounts receivable/payable, funds disbursement, and expenditure control.
• Implement and maintain financial operating policies and coding structures to support efficient operations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for banking system processes and coordinate with external auditors.

Required profile

• Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking, OR six years of full‑time experience plus 24 semester hours in accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics (or an advanced degree in a related field).
• Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is acceptable.
• Experience substitution allowed up to 120 semester hours.
