Gunsmith III (Small Arms)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Gunsmith III (Small Arms) who designs, fabricates, modifies, repairs and services foreign and domestic firearms, weapons and accessories. The role also covers weapons maintenance, storage and accountability, and direct supervision of subordinate gunsmiths.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and develop prototype small arms from drawings or customer input, and design computer prototypes
• Instruct in external/internal and terminal ballistics and build custom pistols, rifles and other weapons systems without supervision
• Direct daily weapons maintenance in the Arms Room and supervise subordinate gunsmiths
• Maintain accountability of weapons and accessories, prepare them for shipment, receive, tag, store and issue them, and keep records in AWRDS
• Service and repair US military firearms per technical manuals, document work and apply FAMs, MAMs, SOUMs and MWOs
• Pack outbound shipments, move weapons and supplies with pallet jacks, forklifts or industrial trucks, and compile reports on location changes, issues, receipts and shipping
• Inspect storage crates and racks, enforce security requirements and maintain inventory records

Required profile

• One to two years of accredited in-house gunsmithing course or equivalent experience
• Four years repairing US military small arms, including crew-served weapons, with recent armorer experience
• Valid US citizenship (required for facility credentials), valid state driver's license and ability to pass a security clearance
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, outdoors and under pressure, and work shifts, nights, weekends and holidays
• Team player; travel may be required

Required skills

• Knowledge of hand tools, machine tools and technical manuals
• Written communication, report writing and word processing
• Preferred: US Army or USMC armorer certificates and familiarity with combat and tactical equipment
