Economic Affairs Officer

About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer works within the Programme Management Unit of the Economic Analysis and Policy Division, supporting the United Nations’ work on global macro‑economic trends and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor economic developments in a defined area and identify emerging issues of concern to the UN.
• Design and conduct studies, prepare drafts for reports and publications, and interpret econometric modelling results.
• Develop draft policy recommendations and formulate proposals for development strategies.
• Provide substantive support to intergovernmental bodies such as the General Assembly’s Second Committee and the Economic and Social Council.
• Review and monitor technical cooperation projects and prepare analyses for national governments.
• Supervise junior staff, coordinate intra‑ and inter‑departmental initiatives, and support the Director in programme planning and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in economic analysis and policy development.
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.
• Experience supporting intergovernmental bodies and preparing high‑level briefing materials.
