Auditor – District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General

About the role

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in the District of Columbia seeks an Auditor to join its Audit Unit. This position provides hands‑on experience applying auditing concepts, principles, and techniques to evaluate city programs and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Apply auditing concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques to financial and performance audits.
• Develop familiarity with District of Columbia programs, regulations, and operational practices.
• Work independently within supervisory guidelines and refer complex issues to the supervisor.
• Exercise judgment in selecting appropriate procedural and technical instructions.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, public administration, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be business law).
• Knowledge of government auditing standards, GAAP, GAAS, and internal‑control review methodologies.
• Familiarity with District of Columbia government programs, laws, policies, and regulations affecting OIG activities.
