Associate Director, Data Architect Manager

About the role

The Associate Director leads and develops a programming and reporting team, setting goals, assigning work, coaching performance and managing recruiting and onboarding, while keeping leadership and partners informed of status and risks. The role provides hands-on technical review, enforces standards, tracks quality and timelines and drives best practices such as code review, reusable components and test automation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and deployment of clinical technology solutions (EDC, RTSM, eCOA/ePRO) and oversee clinical programming, reporting and data integration
• Develop advanced reporting solutions (dashboards, listings, visual analytics) with reusable components and role-based access
• Define and govern integration architecture, data models, semantic layers and curated datasets, and monitor data ingestion and consumption
• Automate data engineering processes, lead testing strategies and support release management and UAT
• Drive process optimization, resource planning and documentation and audit standards
• Manage the team: set objectives, conduct check-ins and annual reviews, coach performance, support recruiting and handle sensitive employee relations with HR
• Manage an operating budget, coordinate contingent resources across geographies and balance workloads
• Partner with GDMS and other teams, influence adoption of data standards and tools, and champion organizational change

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree: minimum 8 years in clinical data programming, data engineering or related functions, plus 2 years of people management experience
• Advanced degree (master's or doctorate): minimum 4 years in those functions, plus 2 years of people management experience
• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in clinical development
• Proficiency in English

Required skills

• SQL, Python, SAS and R
• Experience architecting EDC platforms, data integration environments and clinical operations systems, and cloud platforms
• Data management and clinical operations tools, including data capture, review, reconciliation and reporting
• Clinical and regulatory data standards (MedDRA, WHODrug), validation, GxP / ICH guidelines and FDA regulations
• People leadership, coaching and matrixed global team management
