Assistant Teacher – Early Childhood

About the role

The Hoya Kids Learning Center at Georgetown University seeks a dedicated Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in delivering developmentally appropriate care and early education to children of university staff, faculty, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing, and stimulating environment for toddlers.
• Implement classroom activities that follow the emergent curriculum.
• Build supportive relationships with parents to address each child’s individual needs.
• Monitor and support each child’s developmental progress.
• Assist with classroom setup, material preparation, and occasional lifting of children and supplies up to 40 lb.

Required profile

• Possession of a CDA credential, an associate degree, or completion of at least 60 college‑level credit hours.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to engage actively with children through music, movement, and floor‑level activities.
• Comfort with regular exposure to communicable illnesses and bodily fluids.

Required skills

• Basic computer/technology proficiency.
