About the role
The Assistant Controller will provide comprehensive accounting support to HousingPlus, a human‑services organization serving residents of New York. This position offers the chance to deepen expertise across general ledger, account reconciliation, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fundraising, and KPI reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Execute month‑end close procedures, prepare journal entries, and produce balance‑sheet and income‑statement analyses.
- Maintain general ledger accounts, reconcile revenue accounts for government contracts, and perform bank and credit‑card reconciliations.
- Support budgeting, cash‑flow scheduling, and Positive Pay banking reviews.
- Assist with 1099 year‑end processing, audit preparation, and special projects.
- Provide backup for accounts payable, allocate costs, and collaborate on payroll‑related ledger changes.
- Review and reconcile federal and state quarterly 941 tax returns.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 7+ years of accounting or related experience.
- Detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven self‑starter with strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Solid knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Required skills
- Experience with automated accounting systems; Fund‑EZ preferred.
