Aircraft Mechanic III

About the role

The Aircraft Mechanic III supports highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and the safe air transportation of Cabinet Members, senior military leaders and visiting foreign dignitaries. The position is held by Amentum and pays $53.84 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications of aircraft structures, structural components and engines, and maintenance of flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.
• Interpret technical data such as blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to diagnose equipment malfunctions and solve complex problems.
• Carry out preflight, in-flight, basic post-flight and phase inspections, and launch and recover aircraft as required.
• Operate ground support equipment, use hand tools, special tools and fixtures, and move aircraft on the ground.
• Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records and forms and complete IMDS entries.
• Maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness, practice good housekeeping, tool control and FOD awareness, and work shifts including weekends as required.
• Become proficient in aircraft general, jet engine and pneumatic maintenance through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).

Required profile

• FAA A&P certificate.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance (US citizenship required).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a flightline driver's license.
• Preferred: three years of working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of aircraft hand tools, special tools and test equipment.
• Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and operation of portable firefighting equipment.
• Able to read, interpret and understand schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications.
• Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
