Aircraft Mechanic III

About the role

The Aircraft Mechanic III supports highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and the safe air transportation of Cabinet Members, senior military leaders and visiting foreign dignitaries. The position is held by Amentum and requires proficiency in three maintenance classifications (aircraft general, jet engines and pneumatics) through Cross Utilization Training.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications of aircraft structures, structural components and engines, and maintenance of flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components
• Interpret technical data such as blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to diagnose equipment malfunctions and solve complex problems
• Carry out preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight and phase inspections, and launch and recover aircraft as required
• Operate ground support equipment, use hand tools, special tools and fixtures, and move aircraft on the ground
• Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records and complete IMDS entries
• Maintain good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and safety, and work shifts including weekends as required

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• FAA A&P certificate
• Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance (US citizenship required)
• Flightline driver's license
• Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds
• Preferred: three years of working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations

• Aircraft hand tools, special tools and test equipment

• Reading and interpreting schematics, drawings, charts and technical publications
• Cross Utilization Training to cover aircraft general, jet engines and pneumatics
