Agency Attorney II – Early Intervention Unit

About the role

The Early Intervention Unit of the New York City Police Department is seeking an Agency Attorney II to support the Early Intervention Program. The attorney will analyze at‑risk personnel cases, provide legal guidance, and ensure compliance with court‑ordered interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and assess candidates for inclusion in the Early Intervention Program.
• Review police documents, reports, and body‑worn camera footage to recommend appropriate interventions.
• Examine cases involving evidence suppression or refusal to indemnify, identify legal issues, and advise on program inclusion.
• Ensure compliance with ordered interventions and prepare data for quarterly reporting.
• Coordinate with the Health and Wellness Section and the Early Intervention Committee to support holistic member well‑being.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor degree and admission to the bar.
• Experience in criminal law, law‑enforcement policies, or related legal practice.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with command staff and multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Legal research and case analysis.
• Knowledge of criminal procedure and evidence law.
• Familiarity with police documentation and body‑worn camera systems.
