Vice President – Leveraged Finance Credit Risk

About the role

The Corporate Investment Bank (CIB) at Santander is seeking a Vice President to lead Leveraged Finance Credit Risk. This senior position provides independent oversight of credit quality, ensures compliance with regulatory and internal standards, and mentors junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Review, challenge, and approve or decline credit requests, including underwrites, revolver holds, derivatives, and trade finance.
• Provide effective challenge on credit analysis, modeling, and committee papers prepared by the 1st Line of Defense.
• Ensure transactions are routed to the appropriate approval forums in line with credit policies.
• Maintain independent oversight of portfolio credit quality, risk ratings, and regulatory risk ratings.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for Leveraged Finance and guide junior staff.
• Recommend structural or term changes when waivers or amendments are requested.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent.
• 6+ years of credit risk management experience, with at least 5 years in Leveraged Finance Credit Risk.
• Extensive experience in the financial industry.
• Strong knowledge of credit policies, regulations, and applicable laws.
• Proven ability to interact with regulators, internal and external audit teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
