Tax Accountant – Public Accounting

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Tax Accountant to join our public accounting team in Midtown Manhattan. The role is fully onsite, five days a week, and offers exposure to a diverse client base ranging from high‑net‑worth individuals to multinational corporations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare individual, partnership, and corporate income tax returns, including high‑net‑worth (HNW) clients.
• Handle foreign filings such as FBARs, Form 1116, 5471, 5472, and related PFIC reporting.
• Prepare sales tax and commercial rent tax returns for clients across various industries.
• Review and respond to government notices on behalf of clients.
• Develop fixed‑asset schedules, calculate depreciation, and analyze balance‑sheet items.
• Perform tax planning, estimate calculations, and assist with complex client engagements.
• Prepare quarterly and annual tax provision calculations, test deferred tax balances, and reconcile filings.
• Draft research memoranda, correspondence, and guidance for IRS or other tax authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA certification or a master’s in taxation is a plus.
• 1–2 years of tax return preparation experience in a CPA firm.
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with ProSystem Fx Tax, Engagement, or Fixed Assets modules.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks and/or Peachtree.
